Red Heart Afghan Progress

Just take a sneak peek!
Pretty Panel
This is coming together beautifully! I couldn't stand it and had to go ahead and put a panel together so I could get a good idea of what it's going to look like, and...I LIKE! It's going to look so pretty in my den, and fun to curl up under this winter.
Detail
I really like working with this Red Heart Soft yarn. It has a little sheen to it and feels so yummy!
Hopefully with the weekend here I can get some more done on this. I had to take a break from working on the Babette because I was starting to get a little burnout!

Me & Babette

Hello, it's me and Babette....
Me & Babette

taking a break from crocheting to snap a few pictures of my progress...I have the second blue panel wrapped around my neck...makes a pretty scarf!!! I have been crocheting like crazy the past couple of nights. These outside panels seemed to have slowed me down just a bit. I think all the work will be well worth it...it is really turning out nicely. I have been thinking ahead of how to finish the blanket off. Maybe a border of brightly colored two round squares around the entire edge? I'm not sure, I have plenty of time to think about it.

This is why I love granny squares so much...I think they are beautiful. How something so simple and basic can be so pretty, I will never know. I am loving the way this blue yarn is working up.

A Collection of Shrugs

I call these little sweaters shrugs, but I guess you could refer to them as a bolero or sweater. These are fun to knit up and work up fairly quickly. They look great in every yarn I have worked them up in. And when accessorized with vintage jewelry I think they come to life. Here is just a small sample of some of the shrugs I have made. I have purchased some natural cotton to make one of these up for myself...but being busy with my Babette I have not had the chance to start one yet. Oh, if only there were more hours in the day!

Most of the "buttons" are actually vintage clip on earrings. I am fortunate to have received a stash of my grandmother's costume jewelry. She always wore those clip on earrings!!

Knit ShrugThis is the very first shrug I knit up! Oh, I can see all kinds of errors in it, but I do like it. And that pin is a little cameo given to my by my grandma! The Noro yarn is delicious!

Thrifted Blue Crochet Shawl

Thrifted Blue Shawl

Just look what I found at my local Community Thrift Store!!! I love it...and it was only 2$!!! I felt like I had found a treasure. I would like to make one up in a finer cotton yarn, in brights, surrounded in black. Wouldn't it be stunning. This is just a simple triangular shawl...yet it can be worn in so many ways!

I wish whoever crocheted this pretty little thing up could know how much I appreciate it's beauty!
Things are winding down after a week off of work...it will soon be back to reality! But that's okay...it's been a fun week and I have lots of news to share with everyone in the morning...they are all gonna be surprised!

Painting with Yarn!

Addition of the Blue Panel Border
I am adding a border to the small Babette in the blues and greens of the blanket. I think it adds a lot of contrast to the whole thing! It still calls for something more after I get this done, but just not sure quite what yet.

My thinking that once I get this border done, to do a border of just small grannies all the way around the parameter of the blanket in bright colors to contrast with the blue!!!

Just Married!
Alot has been happening in my family lately!! First of all, Brad and I made a discreet little trip to the courthouse and got married! We wanted it to be a surprise for everyone!! I think it was!! It was perfect! Our friends Mike and Kim came with us to witness...I cannot imagine it any other way!

Secondly, my sister had her baby this morning...Maya Cassidy Voorhees, a sweet baby girl, seven pounds. How exciting!

Bold & Beautiful.

Well, here it is...all those squares are sewn together!! It's bold and bright, and I love it!
Only problem, this blanket measures about 33" square, so I am going to have to add panels to it to make it bigger. I am toying with the idea adding a band of panels around the blanket pulling out only the blues in the blanket, then following with another band pulling out the rust colors...?? I am having a hard time trying to decide. I thought the blues would cool it down a bit.
Finished Babette Square

It is really hard to photograph this to get the true color. But these photos are pretty true to the color. I have not yet blocked the squares or blanket, so I am pleased at how even it came together.

I love comments, and if anyone has any ideas on how to continue I would love to hear from you!!!

mmmmmm....Yarn!

Pile-O-Yarn! :-)

Aren't the colors yummy!!? I love this yarn, it is so soft and the colors are great! I picked up this yarn at Michael's last week to make a throw for myself. My grannies are all going to be different. I am just not a symmetrical person - I get so bored crocheting the same square over and over. I whipped up a few squares the other night to see if I am going to like it, and Yes! I believe I am. I think this will work up fast, and is a great little project to work on in the evenings!

To anyone wanting to crochet up a throw I highly recommend this yarn! It crochets up beautifully and it feels wonderful!!!

Babette Update!
I have started assembling squares together. Whew...what a job, but it is the most rewarding part, this is when you see all your work coming together. It is a lot of weaving in ends and sewing panels. This truly is a baby blanket!! Although I would like to consider it done, I am afraid I am going to have to crochet up more squares and add some panels to make it larger, this is a true "baby blanket" size! I have decided to keep this blanket...I lost my etsy sale on it but have grown so attached to it I don't want to part with it!! I think it is going to look like a piece of folk art when I get it finished!

It is my hope to get these panels assembled today so I can take this outside and get some good pictures of it in natural light!! It's hard to tell the size of this blanket, but those little two round squares measure just a little over an inch!!!

Some Favorites

I put together a collection of some of my favorite grannies. I don't know why I like them so much, but I do!!!
Grannies!
As I am putting some finishing touches on the diaper bag, and thinking about finishing up my Babette Blanket, my brain is pondering what's next???
I bought two big bags of yummy yarn from Michael's on Sunday in anticipation for more granny squares, possibly a throw for myself. With a week's vacation coming up I am so looking forward to some quiet time crocheting or knitting.
